Sawyer Laminated Wood Oars  

Crafted from specially selected straight grain Douglas fir, Sawyer Laminated Wood Oars are the Northwest originals. Douglas fir, a wood known for it’s high strength to weight ratio and for it’s resistance to deflection or bending, makes a beautiful, light, stiff and stable oar. Coveted and cherished by Northwestern rafters and driftboaters for twenty years, these oars have been tested and proven on whitewater rivers worldwide.

Sawyer Laminated Oars feature full length tapered shafts for a balance and feel available only in wood. Sawyers slight crown blades offer superb control while Northern White Ash edges and epoxy-metal tip splines* add durability. Our finish is a sealer soak plus two thick coats of the finest marine grade spar varnish. Sawyer Laminated Wood Oars all come equipped with foam grips for assured handling.

Sawyer Original Whitewater (S/P)

From 8’ to 12’; The original Sawyer whitewater oar. Fine edge for quiet entry, slight crown blade face for anti-flutter and tapered shaft for proper balance and flex.

 

Sawyer Lights (S/P Lights)

From 8’ to 12’; Our most popular dory/drift boat oar. The thin, tapered, slight crown blade provides the light blade weight preferred by the Northwest’s professional Drift Boat Guides.

 

Sawyer Utility (STD)

From 5 1/2’ to 8’; Light oars for prams, tenders and fishing catamarans. The economy solution modeled after the Sawyer S/P Whitewater, this oar has a slight crown blade face, but no epoxy metal mesh tip spline.

Starting with the Outfitter standard Hybrid with its familiar yellow shaft up to the incredibly light, incredibly durable MX line which has quickly made its presence known both in professional and recreational use. Original Hybrid S/P Oars w/Counter Balance

From 8’ to 12’; Sawyer tubular fiberglass shafts longitudinal and hoop fibers provide strength and durability needed by Outfitters. Epoxy/fiberglass reinforcements strengthen blade/handle stress points. The laminated Douglas fir, 4 lb. counterbalanced, grip offers a very light "in the lock" feel and cause the oar to float blade up for easy spotting and retrieval! 5 1/2" x 30" Laminated Douglas fir blade with epoxy-metal mesh tip spline, standard.

Sawyer MX Composite Oars
The Sawyer MX is a new generation of Sawyer composite oars. Its lightweight, exceptional strength and crisp good looks are a result of over six years of evolving shop and river tests. The core of the MX system is the shaft;
Multi-aXially engineered Fiberglass and Fiberglass/Graphite composite tube in diameters and lay-up which give the best balance of strength, weight, flex and durability.

 

MX-F Oar;

large diameter MX fiberglass shaft with 30" S/P blade
From 8’ to 12’; Longitudinal and hoop fiberglass tube with fiberglass braid wrap. The combination offers a strengthening torsional matrix which protects the shaft and returns your energy to the blade, where you want it. No charge, optional, counter-balance lightens oar in the lock as well as points the blade up when floating, for easy spotting if the oar goes over-board. 5 1/2" x 30" laminated Douglas fir with a epoxy metal mesh cross-tip spline, makes up the S/P blade of the MX-F.

 

MXS-F Oar;

From 8’ to 12’; Same construction as the large diameter; longitudinal & hoop fiberglass tube with fiberglass braid wrap, but is made to be dimensionally compatible with blades and grips of other brands. 5 1/2" x 30" laminated Douglas fir with a epoxy metal mesh cross-tip spline, makes up the S/P blade of the MXS-F.

 

MX-G Oar;

large diameter MX graphite/fiberglass reinforced shaft with 30" Ash VG Blade
From 8’ to 12’; Developed to offer the best combination of lightness and strength, the Sawyer MX-G is the ultimate oar for the enthusiast through whitewater professional. Longitudinal fiberglass mixed with Graphite braid offers a unique torsional energy return system; the more torque put to the shaft, the tighter the braid gets; the tighter the braid gets, the more stable the longitudinal fibers. Combine the MX-G shaft with the feel and flex of the White Ash blade with VGtm tip (graphite face/Dynelltm edged) and you have the finest oar available today. The MX-G is available with a 4 pound counter balance at no additional charge.

PoleCat Oar (HPC)

From 7’6" to 10’; The PoleCat is Sawyer’s solution for the cost conscious oar buyer who wants the lightweight strength advantage of a fiberglass shaft with the history of superior design and durability only offered by Sawyer. Offered in white and black shafts the PoleCat comes standard with a 5 1/2" x 30", aluminum cored, fiberglass filled, polypropylene Sawyer Synthetic blade. The PoleCat grip is smooth laminated Douglas fir.

Smoker Oars

Made continuously since 1933, most Smokers are crafted from specially selected Northern White Ash, which is chosen for its strength, flex and durability. With their full length tapered shafts and slight crown tapered blades these oars offer excellent balance and flex; a feeling un-available in a composite oar. The finish is two sealer soaks, plus a thick coat of the finest marine grade spar varnish.

Sawyers makes Smokers for whitewater rafts, whitewater dories and driftboats. We have made Ash oars for every purpose from small rowing and fishing through whitehalls, pulling boats, lifeboats and whaleboats; even oars for Viking Longboats! Sizes range from 5 to 18 feet.

 

Smokers Quality Oar (QO)

From 5 1/2’ to 7 1/2’; This fine inexpensive small boat oar, made from laminated select Douglas fir, is at homein the hands of rowers of prams, personal whitewater and fishing catamarans.

 

Smokers Solid Ash - Quality Oar (AQ)

From 5 1/2’ to 7 1/2’; This oar is the same profile as the Quality Oar, but in the more durable and flexible Northern White Ash.

 

Smokers Solid Ash - Light Drifter/Dory (AL)

From 8’ to 12’; This solid Ash oar is a favorite of dory and driftboaters. It’s special slim blade offers light blade weight for hours of rowing with minimal effort and a proper flex for finessing your boat into and out of eddies.

 

Smokers Solid Ash - Whitewater Oarn (AW)

From 8’ to 12’; Made as the Drifter/Dory but with a thicker blade intended to deal with the rougher water and rockier bottoms. Rafters particularly like its strength and durability.

 

Smokers Solid Ash - Stout - Custom (AWC6)

From 8 1/2’ to 12’; By special order only. This is the worlds most durable whitewater oar! This beefy big water oar has no taper in the shaft and a stout, heavy duty blade. Very little flex; very quick response!
